In this chapter I learn about the Mass Communication on the internet. A mail list is a list of names and e mails addresses for a group of people who share a common interest in a subject or topic. A moderated list is when a list moderator is responsible for discarding any message that are inappropriate for or irrelevant to the lists members and the immoderate list is when an individual does not moderate the list and posting are sent list members automatically. It also talks about the Usenet Newsgroups. The original Usenet News Service was devoted to transmitting computing news and facility discussions among employees of university computing departments on topics such as operating systems and programming languages. The topic categories on Usenet originally called newsgroups or forums. A distribution database is stored in multiple physical s, with portions of the database replicated in different s. The server that stores a newsgroup is called news server, the store and forward process is called obtaining a newsfeed, most of this newsfeed occur over the internet using the Network News Transfer Protocol (NNTP).The Newsreaders were programs designed for the sole purpose of communicating with news server computers. It also talks about the podcasting, a podcasting lets a user subscribe to an audio feed, usually stored in the MP3 file format, and then listen to it at the user's convenience on an MP· player.

In this Chapter I really understand the differences between the Internet Relay Chat, Instant Messages software, Web-Based chat rooms, and virtual communication. The Primary differences among chat tools relate to the conversation that you have using them and the software and internet connection required to initiate them. Internet Relay Chat requires Special chat client software and a connection to an IRC server, and chats occur in Public places. Instant Messaging software lets you contact your friends or business associates to chat with them in a private setting on a variety of devices, including wireless devices. Web-Based chat rooms let you chat in public using a web browser. Virtual communities are Web sites that enable communication between the online members of the community. Also this chapter talks about the Evolution of wireless Networks, The wireless Local Area Networking (Wi-Fi,WLAN), Personal Area Networking, the Infrared Technology You can wirelessly beam information from one device to another compatible device using infrared light waves, Bluetooth, Wireless Wide Are Networking (WWAN), and the Metropolitan Area Networking (WiMAX)

Chapter #6 focus on how the FTP works, how can we transfer files or download as well as upload with FTP, how to navigate a FTP site by a web browser. Also explain all of compressed files. FTP, or File Transfer Protocol, is the Internet protocol that transfers files between computers that are connected to the Internet. The site to which you are sending files and from which you are receiving files is called an FTP site, FTP server, or a remote computer. When you are connected to the FTP file it is call the Local Computer. You can select one of two file transfer modes-ASCII or binary-that you want to use before transferring the file. Most Web browsers, including Microsoft Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator, support FTP, but have limited functionality when compared to FTP client programs. Logging on to one of the many publicly accessible, remote computers connected to the Internet is called Anonymous Login and you use a anonymous user name. Software that is available to users at no cost and with no restrictions are called freeware. On the other hands it is usually available for free during a short evaluation period are called Shareware. File compression programs compress files to decrease the amount of space they require and also to decrease the time it takes to upload and download files. WinZip is a popular file compression program; the most common extension is .zip, which is why some people refer to compressed files as zip files or a zip archive.

As well as new ways to promote products on the webs and also sell product on internet (Electronic storefronts). i also learn what it is the Network Interface Card (NIC), Server, Client, Network Operating System, Client/Server Networks, Local Area Network (LAN). it also talks about the types of cables and WAN. the origin of the Internet begins with DARPA researchers connected first computer switches in 1969. ARPANET grew over next three years to include over 20 computers. Computers communicated to other computers on the network by using Network Control Protocol (NCP). Protocol: collection of rules for formatting, ordering, and error-checking data sent across a network. this chapter it's really interesant, eventhough i didn't had the correct book i learn so many things with the powerpoint slides.
